Welcome to Media Studies. The information you are about to read will show you everything you can do in Media and how to do it well.

Media Studies has to be one of the most entertaining lessons of all time! We talk about pretty much everything to do with media, from film to printed media – even the way the weather is presented.

Media Terms

We don’t just talk about topics like Films and Television, we also get to understand Media Terms which are what is associated with Media Topics e.g. Genre – Audience – Narrative – Organisation

What else do you study in Media?

Media isn’t just work, we also get fun things to do in the topic. We had a trip to the British Media Museum in Bradford for a workshop on animation and we have also visited the BBC Roadshow and got a chance to read the news and weather.

We use cameras for animation, make our own cartoon characters and we even watch films.

The Course Spec

For a GCSE qualification in Media Studies you need:

Coursework 60%

Examination 40%

The course consists of 3 units which are:

2 Textual investigations – Genre and Narrative

1 Production piece which includes research and planning
