Mobile Phone Cosy

Research

The pupils start this project DT creating a mind map of all aspects about designing a phone cosy, such as themes, customer, cost, colours, size etc. Part of the research will be to find examples of fleece and felt phone cases and create a collage of ideas to inform designs.

Design

When the research is complete pupils will then use ideas from previous lessons to create 4 possible design ideas. All designs need to be fully annotated and colour added to the designs. From the 4 design ideas one will be chosen and completed with the use of colour and then annotated.

Make

Practical making of the product.
The final practical making of the product will then start, demonstrating accurate pattern cutting and pinning and then embroidering into background of case. Pass a sewing machine driving test and then sew the final product accurately.

Exciting Experiences

  • The ability to design a product that the student can make.
  • Learning hand embroidery techniques.
  • Creating an original product that you have designed.
  • Using the sewing machine and passing a ‘Machine Driving Test’
