Unit 1

In this unit we will look at the Tudor period. We will investigate the character of Henry VIII, his wives, the events and causes of his Break from Rome, and the Dissolution of the Monasteries. We will also identify the various problems Henry’s children faced and how they dealt, analysing them with a view to justify some of the era defining decisions that were made.

Unit 2

Crime and Punishment will be the thematic focus of the second unit of the year. The investigation will have some chronological relationship with the Tudor unit. We will investigate the case of the Princes in the Tower to decide whether we can explain their fate. There will also be an exploration of the crimes of Heresy and Treason, and how these were punished. Gunpowder Plot and witchcraft.

Unit 3

The third unit of the year will be a reflection on the Transatlantic Slave Trade. We will examine pre Slave trade Africa to consider it’s cultural development. The exploration will include an analysis of the method of transport across the middle passage and it’s part in the Transatlantic Slave Trade Triangle, the life of a slave on a plantation, and a debate on the Abolitionist movement

Exciting Experiences

There will be the opportunity for a visit to Liverpool’s World Heritage Victorian waterfront, including the Slavery Museum, and the Museum  of Liverpool.
