Unit 1 – Performance

Building on previous skills. Pupils will further develop ensemble skills through exploring more genres. From the Blues to Reggae, learn how to play in ensembles using a variety of rhythmic feels from swing to offbeat rhythms. Develop your resilience by performing appropriately challenging parts showing awareness of musicality.

Unit – Composition

Demonstrate an understanding of the principles of composing from a given starting point. Analyse lyrical content from other songs and use them as an influence to compose music that represents our own musical identity.

Unit 3 – Appraisal

Discuss and critique music of others effectively. Further study into the musical elements will enable us to identify key features within a variety of genres.

Exciting Experiences

  • Explore the use of improvisation – Learn how to play a 12 bar blues pattern and take a solo over the chords.
  • Compose your own music to go with a scene from a film.
  • Arrange tutorials to learn an instrument in and outside lessons!
