Wooden Moving Toy Project

Research/Analysis

Understanding Movement

The key focus of this unit of work is to learn about the four key types of movement and then analyse a range of products and communicating observations through extended writing. This work will be assessed to determine the standard of literacy and understanding of the various types of movement, use of materials and mechanisms associated with this product.

Design

Design the toy and illustrate the mechanisms for movement using annotation to illustrate understanding before making of the product within the workshop. Pupils will then create a card template to fully test the scale and functionality of toy.

Make

The toy will be made in the workshop using a variety of tools and materials. Students will demonstrate their practical making skills that will be further developed in year 9. When toy is made, the product will be decorated using appropriate materials and colours.

Exciting Experiences

  • The chance to design a unique toy and then make it.
  • Get experience using a wide range of professional tools in our excellent workshop.
  • Have a final product that you can take home.
