Key Stage 3

Students in Year 7, 8 and 9 study D&T as part of a carousel system allowing different specialist areas to be experienced, whilst developing their understanding of the design process and learning a range of different skills and disciplines.


The areas that are studied:

  • Food
  • Resistant Materials
  • Textiles
  • Graphics

Key skills are an integral part of the course.


Key Stage 4

Students can opt to study a range of D&T subjects for GCSE


The course on offer at present are:

  • D&T Resistant Materials

This course involve studying the design process and learning about materials. components and methods of construction. The course is essentially practical based allowing students to demonstrate their skills and knowledge in a final project.

Assessment is by means of a final project called a controlled assessment and a written examination paper.

Controlled Assessment 60%

A design and make project of approximately 25 sides of A3 together with a practical article. This work is supervised by the teacher.

Written Paper 40%

This paper is not tiered and consists of a set of questions specifically to test the knowledge and design ability of students. The paper is designed to allow students of all abilities to answer the questions.
